The jovia hotei Buddha is the god of contentment and happiness. Originally he was named hotei (in Japan) and pu-tai in china but he is best known as laughing Buddha. He always used to be happy so, thereby the name is “laughing Buddha”. The large bag over his back contains a lot of food which is used to feed poor and needy.
According to the ancient legend the happy saint used to go from town to town to spreading happiness and wherever he went distributing sweets and small toys to children after which he used to put his bag down and stare up at the sky and laugh madly. His smile was way real when he used to smile after spreading happiness among all and all who gather around him would start to laugh as well. This was the signal that his work has been done and then he moves to another town spreading happiness.
If you consider bringing him at your home or at workplace, keep in mind that it should not be very tiny. Laughing Buddha is also known as “Buddha of wealth”. People believe that placing a “laughing Buddha” at their workplace, homes, shops etc. will bring wealth and prosperity.
A laughing Buddha needs his tummy to be rubbed daily in order to grant your wishes. The statue should always be kept clean, otherwise he should not grant your wishes.
There are different opinions regarding the bag the saint Buddha carries, some believes that he carries all the things one needs to be happy and others believe that he takes away all the sorrows of ones who truly believes him and put them in that bag.

WHERE TO PLACE LAUGHING BUDDHA AT YOUR HOME…
Laughing Buddha is better to be placed in your entrance hall or living room. If possible he likes to see the door every time.
The statue should not be placed at the floor as it would be a disrespect for him.
The statue should never be placed in the bathrooms and on any electronic device as it is believed that it would not bring good luck to the owner. So it is one of the most popular statues bringing good wealth and luck to one who brings it at home.
